Macro photography isn’t something I often get to explore. Most of my work revolves around portraits, sports, and event coverage — but anytime I get the chance to slow down and focus on artistic detail, I jump on it.

This project started when my friend Lily reached out. She didn’t want the typical stock-style Etsy photos of vegetables that you can buy and frame. Instead, she asked me to create something original: macro shots of fresh vegetables she could print, frame, and hang in her kitchen.

Sourcing the Freshest Subjects

The morning of our session, Lily went to the local farmers market to pick up a variety of fresh vegetables — not the polished, uniform produce from a supermarket, but vibrant, character-rich veggies straight from the farm. This gave us the perfect subjects to work with: full of texture, color, and organic imperfections that make macro photography so striking.

The Setup

For the shoot, I used my Canon RF 100mm macro lens, paired with continuous lighting and monitored live through my Atomos Shinobi. This setup let me get close, highlight every texture, and control light in a way that made the vegetables pop without over-stylizing them.

From Capture to Print

Once we had a good variety of images, I moved into editing in Lightroom, fine-tuning tones and contrasts to get the best possible color range. The real test came when I brought the photos to life on paper using my Canon imagePROGRAF 1000 printer.

Experimenting with different papers was part of the creative process. I tested several finishes before ultimately settling on Pro Plus Semi-Gloss, which delivered rich colors and crisp detail — perfect for wall art that holds presence without too much shine.

Why This Project Stands Out

This session was a reminder of how versatile product and food photography can be. By treating vegetables like fine art subjects, I was able to deliver a series of prints that feel both modern and organic. What started as a personal commission for kitchen wall art also became a great showcase of how intentional food photography can elevate even the simplest subjects.

If you’re a brand, restaurant, or small business looking for original product or food photography, I’d love to create visuals that highlight your products with the same care and attention to detail.
